Unable To Start Minecraft If You Are Running From A Dmg

When I launch Minecraft from the dock or from the Applications folder, it loads for a bit, then the Minecraft Updater pops up, saying:
'Unable to start Minecraft, if you are running from a dmg, please drag to Applications and try again'
The issue is that, as stated, I'm not running from a dmg. This even happens after making sure that both minecraft.app and it's 'contents' folder are read-write for my user.

The damage mobs deal to players is affected by the difficulty of the game. The below values represent the amount of damage taken per hit. This applies only to mobs attacking the player. Mobs attacking other mobs always deal the 'Normal' damage listed, regardless of difficulty. Values for the creeper and ghast assume the player is directly adjacent to the explosion. The damage of slimes. I use a Mac Mini running MacOS Version 11.2.3 and just downloaded Minecraft Java Edition on it. Whenever I click the launcher I get a pop-up saying “Minecraft Launcher: Unable, to start Minecraft, if you are running from a dmg, please drag to Applications and try again.
